A few words about Nala. She had her quirks. She did not play in the way our other dogs played. For example, as you’ll see below, a tug-a-war with our other dogs meant they would tug and tug and tug on their feet until they won or I did. Nala, on the other hand, would tug for a few minutes and then she’d just lay down still holding on to whatever it was we were tugging. Totally relaxed, but not letting go.
For ball playing our other dogs (Fezzik and Dobie) chased the ball, brought it back and dropped it. Nala loved to chase it, but she would rarely drop it. For her the game was to see if I could pull it from her mouth. If you know anything about Pit Bull jaws, this was no easy task and I was often unsuccessful. Often she’d just puncture the ball…another fun thing to do.
We always said Nala was the sweetest dog we’ve ever had. She loved being around and close to us. However, you would never know that watching her chase and sometimes catching and killing squirrels. The tenacity was a little scary to watch. At our old house she used to catch rats. These animals did not suffer…Nala’s jaw strength made sure of that. On meeting other dogs Nala was as friendly as can be…but if the dog got aggressive or started barking and snarling, Nala changed into a different dog: snarling and barking back with one of us on the end of the leash pulling her back with some effort.
The vet’s office terrified Nala which is why we had her put down in our home. A very calm and peaceful experience. I highly recommend it.
She will be missed. Enjoy the photos and videos.
